Domain 2: Classroom Environment
2a. Creating an Environment of Respect and Rapport
Upon completing my student teaching internship, my students wrote letters reflecting on our time together.
2b. Establishing a Culture for Learning
To establish a culture for learning, I co-create community guidelines in collaboration with the students. This practice clearly communicates classroom expectations to students and allows them to actively participate in creating a classroom environment that supports their individual learning needs.
Community Guidelines
This is an example of community guidelines established for a virtual learning environment.
For an in-person learning environment, this can be done using poster board and then displayed in the classroom.
2c. Managing Classroom Procedures
During my student teaching internship, I used daily powerpoint slides to manage classroom procedures. The daily slides included the learning objective and agenda for each class, in addition to reminders, inspirational quotes, and occasionally memes.
2d. Managing Student Behavior
A well-developed classroom management plan provides the foundation for a culture of learning in the classroom. On the left, I provided a classroom management plan created for my student teaching placement that utilizes classroom management techniques based on research and theory to create an environment that is conducive to student learning. On the right, I provided an analysis of the existing classroom management plan using Social-Emotional Learning Standards.
2e. Organizing Physical Space
This is an example of my Bitmoji classroom for virtual/hybrid learning, which represents my ideal classroom environment. The first slide contains colorful posters that support student learning, a library of dance books, and yoga mats/props. The second slide contains our community guidelines, which would be posted on the wall in an in-personal classroom environment. The third slide contains wellness videos that students can reference during independent work time or at home, including guided meditations, videos for stretching, and study music.
